Sergei Lantratov, a two time World Junior champion for Russia, passed away in July in his hometown of Novokuznetsk in Siberia. The 61 year old had been in a coma for two weeks prior to his demise.
Lantratov was part of the Soviet national junior team that won gold at 1975 and 1976 World Juniors. He also represented his country at the 1974 and 1975 under-18 European championships, winning a silver and gold respectively.
Lantratov never played in the top Soviet domestic league. He stayed home in Novokuznetsk where the local team was always in the second or third tier league. He was a popular marksman, scoring 564 career goals and 170 assists in 698 career games.
