Murray Wing

Murray Wing played only one NHL game, but what a game that was!

"I've gotten a lifetime out of that game. The story of that game gets bigger and bigger every time I tell it!" says Wing, who oddly enough played for the Wings of Detroit in his only NHL appearance in 1973-74.

A defenseman who was a long shot prospect originally drafted by the Boston Bruins (83rd overall in 1970), Wing never got a chance in Beantown. He did get a chance in Detroit.

And he even set up a goal.

"I got an assist on a Mickey Redmond goal. I remember it well. It was a pass from outside our blue line up to Redmond outside their blue line. he just took it in and scored."

However that would be it for Wing's career in the NHL. He ended up playing out the rest of the year in England.

He returned and played in his hometown of Thunder Bay.
