Miloslav Guren was a big and mobile defender out of the Czech Republic. He would go onto a lengthy career in Europe, most notably in the Czech Republic and in Russia, but also briefly in Italy and France.
But after graduating from the junior ranks in 1996 he initially gave the NHL his best shot. A third round pick (60th overall) in 1995 by the Montreal Canadiens, Guren apprenticed with the Canadiens farm teams in Fredericton and Quebec City. Guren impressed at the AHL level, twice being recognized as the team's top defenseman.
Yet in he struggled in showings with Montreal. In total he played over 36 games over two seasons, scoring one goal and four points. His only NHL goal came against Vancouver's Garth Snow.
