Joni Ortio, a Finnish goalie prospect of the Calgary Flames, will make his NHL season debut tonight as the Flames play in Vancouver.
Ortio was supposed to play his first game the night before against the travelling Florida Panthers. However Ortio's luggage was lost.
No, not his goalie equipment. He had his mask and pads and sticks. But his personal luggage never arrived.
What's the big deal? For some reason Ortio packed his contact lenses in his luggage! He could not see well enough to play the game!
Lesson learned for the young Ortio. Always pack your contact lenses in your carry-on!
UPDATE: Ortio earned his first NHL shutout against Vancouver, stopping 36 saves and winning 1-0.
