Miracle On Ice Gold Medal Sells For Nearly $263,000

Former NHLer and Olympian Mark Pavelich has sold his 1980 "Miracle On Ice" Olympic gold medal for nearly $263,000.

Pavelich, who assisted on Mike Eruzione's famous goal to lift the Americans to a shocking upset of the Soviet Union, sold his medal through Heritage Auctions of Dallas, Texas. The auction house insists Pavelich is not in financial distress but is trying to secure his children's education.

The medal is the second Miracle On Ice gold medal to be sold at auction. In 2010 Mark Wells' medal fetched nearly $311,000.
