Nathan MacKinnon's 13 game point scoring streak came to an end on Saturday night. The rookie had 5 goals and 18 points in that time.
The National Hockey League record for longest consecutive point scoring streak by a rookie is 20 games. MacKinnon's teammate Paul Stastny set that record back in 2006-07 (scoring 11 goals and 29 points).
Teemu Selanne (20g-14a-34pts) had a 17 game rookie streak in 1992-93.
Paul Stastny's Hockey Hall of Fame father, Peter Stastny, had a 16 game streak back in 1980-81.
MacKinnon apparently did break Wayne Gretzky's unofficial record for longest point streak for an 18-year-old. Gretzky set the record during the 1979-80 season.
"It's pretty cool. I want to be as consistent as possible. He (Gretzky) probably doubled my point total in those games," said MacKinnon, who has five goals and 13 assists during the stretch.
Surprisingly, no he didn't. Gretzky scored 11 goals and 21 points in 12 games in 1979-80.
