Latvia's Vitalijs Pavlovs Fails Drug Test
Latvian forward Vitalijs Pavlovs was sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee due to a doping violation at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
Drug tests revealed the presence of the prohibited stimulant methylhexaneamine (dimethylpentylamine). Pavlovs said he does not know how the stimulant entered his body but admitted he had been taking food supplements upon the recommendation of the doctor of his club team Dynamo Riga of the KHL.
The IOC disciplinary body will now exclude him from the 2014 Olympic Winter Games and his Athlete’s diploma for the 8th-place finish shall be withdrawn.
The IOC will now allow the International Ice Hockey Federation to make appropriate mention of the above in the record of the sports results, and to consider further discipline.
