Back in 2007 The Weakerthans wrote, recorded and released "Elegy for Gump Worsley" as part of their recent CD release The Reunion Tour. It is actually not a song so much as "words spoken to banjo-led accompaniment." Regardless, it is very well done.
This wasn't the first time the Gumper has been immortalized in song. Huevos Rancheros, another Canadian indie band, authored "Gump Worsley's Lament."
Also Sons of Freedom named their second album "Gump" in honor of "The Whiskey Man."
