You can imagine any rookie would be very nervous for his very first National Hockey League game. But not Gordie Howe. In fact, according to a 1969 interview with Sports Illustrated, the boy who would become Mr. Hockey had a different game entirely on his mind:
"I didn't figure I'd get to play much, so I wasn't especially nervous. I remember standing there during the national anthem, counting to myself, '15-2, 15-4, 15-6,' trying to figure out how score a cribbage hand. The older guys were teaching me the game, and they moved the pegs so fast up and down the board that it confused me."
Take a look at this hockey cribbage board my girlfriend got me one Christmas:

Two questions: 1. Where did she get it? 2. Where is the "Skunk line"?
Answers: 1. Gift store in Banff 2. I'll have to look when I get home. Blue line would make sense though!
