Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe and Sid Abel
1924 - Boston Bruins became the first U.S. team to join the NHL when they (and the Montreal Maroons) officially received their NHL franchises.

1945 - Gordie Howe (at age 16) signed his first professional hockey contract, with the Omaha Knights of the United States Hockey League.

1947 - Detroit Red Wings "Production Line" of right wing Gordie Howe, center Sid Abel and left wing Ted Lindsay became a regular line for the first time, connecting for two goals in a 4-3 loss to the Boston Bruins.

1952 - Jacques Plante, called up by Montreal to replace injured goalie Gerry McNeil, beat NY Rangers 4-1, in his first NHL start. In his three game replacement trial he went 2-0-1 giving up only four goals, before being returned to the Montreal Royals.

1952 - Hockey was televised nationally from Maple Leaf Gardens for the first time on the CBC, as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Bruins, 3-2.

1984 - Mike Bossy scored four times to extend his team-record goal scoring streak to 10 games in the New York Islanders' 6-5 loss at Montreal. Bossy scored 17 goals during the 10 game streak, tying his own team record set in 1978-79.

1985 - Buffalo rookie Daren Puppa became the 17th goaltender in NHL history to record a shutout in his first career game as the Sabres won 2-0 at Edmonton. Puppa made 37 saves, including 10 on Wayne Gretzky.

1992 - Mario Lemieux scored twice to extend his team-record goal scoring streak to 12 games in the Penguins' 5-4 win at Tampa Bay. Lemieux scored 18 goals during the 12 game streak.

2000 - Boston Bruins General Manager Harry Sinden stepped down from his position and named Assistant G.M. Mike O'Connell as his replacement. Sinden had been the Bruins' GM since Oct 1972.
