Sunday Funnies: Conn Smythe's Insincere Condolences

Toronto Maple Leafs boss Conn Smythe had no love lost for his arch rival, Art Ross of the Boston Bruins.

So one night shortly after Ross had undergone a hemorrhoid operation, Smythe arrived at the Boston Gardens with a dozen roses. He got King Clancy to deliver the roses.

Clancy handed Ross the bouquet along with a card from Mr. Smythe. The card proved to be more thorny than the roses.

Not that Ross knew that right away. The note was written in Latin. Ross later learned the note said "You know where to shove these."
