This Day In Hockey History: Sept 1st
1936 - Montreal Canadiens purchased veteran Howie Morenz from the New York Rangers.
1993 - Brian Burke resigned as the Hartford Whalers' President and General Manager to join the NHL front office as Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations.
1994 - Anaheim Mighty Ducks signed Paul Kariya, their 1993 First Round Draft Choice, to a three year deal.
1999 - Pittsburgh Penguins became the first club in pro sports history to be owned by a former member of the team, when Mario Lemieux assumed ownership of the Penguins.
