Winter Classic Alumni Game Taking Shape
In 2012 the Winter Classic alumni game was an extra special event, largely because of 67 year old goaltender Bernie Parent's spectacular play. Will the Toronto Maple Leafs try to one up that in 2013?
88 year old Hall of Fame goaltender Johnny Bower has agreed to be a part of the 2012 NHL Winter Classic Alumni game. Surely he will not take to the ice, but what a sight that would be.
Some of the Leafs alumni taking to the ice include Darryl Sittler, Rick Vaive, Darcy Tucker, Felix Potvin, Mike Palmateer, Dave Andreychuk, Doug Gilmour, Wendel Clark and Curtis Joseph.
The home town Detroit Wings will counter with players including Mickey Redmond, John Ogrodnick, Luc Robitaille, Dino Ciccarelli, Chris Chelios, Larry Murphy, Mark Howe, Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby, Darren McCarty, Joe Kocur, Chris Osgood and Mike Vernon along with legends Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay and Alex Delvecchio.
As many as 100 alumni players could be representing their various teams, enough for 2 Alumni games.
The 2013 Winter Classic is on Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Over 100,000 fans are expected to be in attendance for the game.
