Another season is mercifully near its end for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Maybe one of these years the NHL will finally put another team in the Greater Toronto Area so that hockey fans in Southern Ontario can experience the playoffs.
All kidding aside, it is a shame that such a big hockey market continues to languish. There are lots of reasons for this - weak down the middle, lack of depth, bad coaching - but they just have not gotten the goaltending needed to mask all of their weaknesses.
Perhaps this is what the Leafs need - Not one Johnny Bower, but two!
That's an Parkhurst 1958-59 "Johnny Bowers" card. Parkhurst reprinted the card in 2001-02, complete with the name misspelling.
Did you know Johnny Bower's real name was Johnny Kishkan (or Kiszkan). He changed his name in his early 20s (after playing professionally in the minor leagues).
