This Day In Hockey History: Feb 4th



1965 - NY Rangers traded Camille Henry, Don Johns, Wally Chevrier and Billy Taylor to Chicago in exchange for Doug Robinson, Wayne Hillman and John Brenneman.

1973 - Buffalo beat NY Islanders 5-1 in a penalty-free game played in Buffalo. It was the first penalty free game in both Sabres and Islanders' history.

1978 - Islanders' rookie Mike Bossy recorded the first hat trick of his NHL career as New York won 6-1 over Washington.

1983 - Vancouver traded Anders Eldebrink to the Quebec Nordiques, in exchange for John Garrett.

1989 - Wayne Gretzky scored his first hat trick as a member of the L.A. Kings, and added an assist in a 5-3 Kings' victory over Buffalo.

1989 - Brad Lauer scored the 5,000th goal in New York Islanders team history.

1997 - Mario Lemieux scored his 600th goal (in his 719th game, one more game than it took Gretzky) as the Penguins won 6-4 over the visiting Canucks. Lemieux became the first player to score 600 goals while spending his entire career with 1 team.

2004 - New York Rangers retired Mike Richter's #35 jersey in a pre-game ceremony before a 4-3 loss to the visiting Minnesota Wild.
