This Day In Hockey History: Feb 16th
1923 - Foster Hewitt (hockey's first regular radio announcer) broadcast his first hockey game. Hewitt called an OHA game in Toronto on radio station CFCA.
1929 - Cecil "Tiny" Thompson recorded the 9th shutout of his rookie season as the Boston Bruins won 3-0 over the Black Hawks, in a game played at Fort Erie, Ontario.
1969 - Red Wings' center Alex Delvecchio picked up an assist to become the third player in NHL history to score 1,000 career points.
1994 - Pittsburgh traded Marty McSorley and Jim Paek to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Tomas Sandstrom and Shawn McEachern.
2001 - LA's Mathieu Schneider became the first defenseman in NHL history to score a goal against all 30 NHL teams. LA 4 MIN 0.
2004 - Nashville Predators acquired winger Steve Sullivan from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2004 and second-round draft pick in 2005.
2004 - Trevor Linden became the Vancouver Canucks all-time leader in games played, when he appeared in his 897th with the team (breaking Stan Smyl's record).
