1976 - Buffalo Sabres beat touring Soviet Wings 12-6 at the Aud, making them the first team in NHL history to defeat a Soviet squad. Gerry Desjardins was the winning goalie for the Sabres.
1984 - Edmonton Oilers beat the Minnesota North Stars, 12-8 to set an NHL record for most goals by two teams in a game. Wayne Gretzky led the scoring with four goals and four assists, and Mark Messier added six assists.
1986 - Wayne Gretzky became the first player in NHL history to get 100 points in a season for seven straight years. The milestone came when he picked up an assist in a 4-3 Oilers win against the Hartford Whalers.
1987 - Canada and Russia engaged in a bench clearing brawl at the 1987 World Junior Championships. "The Punch Up In Piestany" resulted in both teams being ejected from the tournament.
1988 - Toronto defenseman Borje Salming became the first European trained player to appear in 1,000 career NHL games.
1998 - New Jersey Devils acquired Jason Arnott and Bryan Muir from Edmonton, in exchange for Valeri Zelepukin and Bill Guerin.

That's an incorrect record. The Habs/ Toronto St.Pats held the record which was set in 1920. Habs defeated Toronto 14-7
