Pucks On The 'Net

One thing I don't like about this time of year - there's only one game a night. Here's some thoughts from the Detroit/San Jose game 5:
  • Antti Niemi's save off of Jonathan Ericsson was as great a save as you will ever see.
  • How about some love at the opposite end of the ice. Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard made many big saves, facing 42 shots.
  • Outside of Sidney Crosby (pre-concussion, anyways) is there a better player in the world right now than Pavel Datsyuk? I don't think so.
  • This isn't exactly a newsflash, but I think it every time he hits somebody with that patented pinch: Niklas Kronwall is the most devastating hitter in the league right now.
  • Detroit showed a lot of heart in not only staving off elimination for a 2nd consecutive game, but to come from a 3-1 deficit after 2 periods in order to do so.
  • Are the seeds of doubt creeping into San Jose's camp? Not yet. But if they lose game 6 . . .
