I had the chance to meet, and talk to Wayne Gretzky over the last couple summers at his charity golf tournament.
In 2009, I noticed a very tired and drained man who seldom cracked a smile unless it was for the cameras. Keep in mind this was right in the heat of the Coyotes/Balsillie crisis as well so he had a ton on his mind.
A year later a highly energetic #99 was joking with us at the media scrum, enjoying himself on the course and with fans and looked almost at his playing weight. Even a rain delay did not take the bounce from his step.
He's clearly enjoying life away from hockey for the first time in, well his life and getting the chance to spend more direct time with his family. And it's well deserved for everything he's given us.
