Historic Day In Hockey

Nearly 78,000 people were in attendance to watch Germany upset USA 2-1 in overtime as the IIHF's World Hockey Championships got underway in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Former NHLer and German defender Sven Butenschon compared the game to a World Cup soccer game, saying, “When you hear the roar of 80,000 people, it is a different noise.”

US forward T.J. Oshie said the players had trouble communicating on the ice with the noise supplied by 77, 803 people in Veletins Arena.
