Another amazing hockey game at the World Junior Hockey Championships on Tuesday, as USA defeated Canada 6-5 in overtime for the gold medal.
It was an unforgettable game, filled with drama and emotion. Jack Campbell, Jordan Schoeder, John Carlson, Jordan Eberle, Alex Pietrangelo . . . what amazing displays of great, great hockey.
The better team won on this night, albeit barely. Canada had the better collection of talent, but USA had a better, more cohesive unit. They did whatever they had to do to win - block shots, take hits, capitalize on their opportunities. Great job.
Canada's run of five consecutive World junior titles is over. It is far from a sad day. In many ways the Canadian boys were unfortunate not to win. They showed amazing heart and resiliency. They did Canada proud.
Besides, by not winning, Canada will only get stronger. And hockey will only get better.
