Carol Vadnais, the highly skilled defenseman and friend of Andre the Giant, is the cover boy of this March 1972 issue of Hockey Pictorial magazine.
Vadnais was an adventurous spirit both on and off the ice. The reason why he played defense like an offensive minded forward was because he did not actually start playing on the blue line until his last season of junior hockey.
Although he toiled for a few seasons with the Oakland/California Seals, he may be best remembered as a Stanley Cup champion with the Boston Bruins. He was a second offensive punch from the back line, behind Bobby Orr of course.
Also of interest, police once detained Vadnais as they mistook him for a bank robbery suspect.
Oh the stories Carol Vadnais could tell us....
