His career resume reads like few others before him, but somehow Al MacInnis never really got the public recognition he deserved.
One of the few times he did was in the 1989 Stanley Cup playoffs. MacInnis and his big shot led Calgary Flames to their first Stanley Cup championship. MacInnis was the leading scorer in those playoffs, the first defenseman to accomplish that feat. In fact he scored a point in each of his last 17 games that spring. For his dominant efforts he was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP.
Big Mac his best remembered for his booming slap shot. Many believe that MacInnis' devastating slap shot rattled Montreal's Patrick Roy to the point of distraction in the Stanley Cup Finals, turning the series in Calgary's favor. Whether true or not, it certainly adds to the legend of Al MacInnis.

Al MacInnis is right up there with Brad Park and Scott Stevens in my opinion. He certainly isnt thought of as a weak link in my eyes. But I see your point, he does get underrated a lot
