This is 1990-91 Score card #112. It is Bob Essensa of the Winnipeg Jets.
Essensa was a popular goalie, and quite capable at providing solid goaltending for stretches. But he never seemed to keep his game at a consistently high level, especially when it mattered most - in the Stanley Cup playoffs. You can read my full Bob Essensa biography here.
It is kind of fitting that I pulled out this card at this time. Nowadays Essensa serves as the goaltending coach for the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins are one of the best teams here in 2009, and that is largely because they feature two of the best goalies in all of hockey. Tim Thomas and Manny Fernandez deserve much of the credit for Boston's success. So, too, does Bob Essensa.
