Clock Strikes 12 For Cinderella Slovaks

The Slovakian's Cinderella run at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships in Ottawa came to an end today. But they gave heavily favored Sweden everything they could handle.

The Slovaks upset Finland in a shootout to qualify for the medal round. Then they outsmarted and outscored the Americans to advance to the semi-finals.

Today against Sweden they had leads of 1-0 and 2-1, employing a brilliant small ice game that confused the Swedes. The Swedes blew it open in a 4 minute span in the third period to finally knock off Slovakia. Final score: 5-3 for the Swedes.

Sweden now goes to Monday's gold medal game, meeting the winner of the Canada-Russia semi-final. That game can be seen today on TSN or TSN.ca starting at 7:30 EST.

The Slovaks can still cap off their amazing tournament with a medal. They will play in Monday's bronze medal game.
