Pilote, Magnuson Honoured Tonight

The Chicago Blackhawks will honour two of their greatest players ever tonight. The Hawks will retire jersey #3, worn by both Pierre Pilote and Keith Magnuson.

Hall of Fame defenseman Pierre Pilote was truly one of the game's all time greats. A center-turned-defenseman, Pilote was always thinking offensively. His approach to the game was not unlike that of Bobby Orr, the man who succeeded Pilote as the best defenseman in hockey.

Imposing Keith Magnuson was a stay-at-home defender, not in the same class as Pilote. But he was all heart, willing his team by his ferocious example. He left every drop of sweat, and often some drops of blood, on the ice each and every night.

More from the Chicago Tribune.
