Over at Hockey Book Reviews.com, I take a look at Brian Conacher's 2007 autobiography As The Puck Turns. The book is published by Wiley.
Conacher may have been a fringe player, but he had a unique perch to observe hockey. He is a member of hockey's royal family, an Olympian, a Stanley Cup champion, a coach, a manger, a broadcaster and rink manager. He even drove the Zamboni.
Through his many jobs in hockey he offers a most unique outlook on many of hockey's great moments, including Father Bauer's Nats and the rise of the Soviets, the 1967 Leafs, the formation of the NHLPA, the rise of the WHA and NHL expansion, the 1972 Summit Series, and the Leafs years of failure under Harold Ballard then Steve Stavro.
It's a fascinating read folks. Check out my review at Hockey Book Reviews.com.
