Here's an interesting stat:
Edmonton rookie Sam Gagner has had at least one assist in each of his last seven games. Gagner’s assist streak is the longest ever by an Oilers rookie.
Wayne Gretzky had an eight-game assist streak in his first NHL season, 1979-80. But since Gretzky played in the WHA, he was not officially considered a rookie.
Can Gagner catch Gretzky's unofficial team record? Edmonton is in Dallas tonight, one of only four games on the schedule.
UPDATE: Sam Gagner has made it 8 games in a row! Gagner assisted on Edmonton's first goal of the game against Dallas., Dustin Penner's power play marker at 7:59 of the third period. The Oilers lost the game 5-2.
I stand to be corrected, but as far as I know the NHL record for consecutive games by a rookie is held by Winnipeg’s Alexei Zhamnov in 1992-93.
