Canada and Sweden face-off for junior supremacy

The World Junior Hockey Championships is, in my opinion, the best annual hockey played outside of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

On Saturday, Team Canada returns to the gold medal game for a record 7th consecutive year. They've won the last three, and have medaled every year in the last 10.

Their opponents will be Team Sweden, the only team to beat Canada not only in this tournament, but in the past three years. Surprisingly, Sweden hasn't medaled in the last 10 years.

The game will be broadcast at 1:30pm EST, 10:30am PST on TSN in Canada. American fans can watch the game on NHL Network.

The bronze medal game, featuring Team USA vs. Team Russia, will air live at 10am EST, 7am PST on both networks as well. I'm gonna cheer for Team USA only because the grandson of the late "Boom Boom" Geoffrion is playing for them. And he's also the great grandson of "The Stratford Streak" Howie Morenz. We have to get Blake Geoffrion a cool nickname. He looks like he's going to be a 4th generation NHL player

TSN.ca offers live streaming and archived video. Check both stations for rebroadcasts of the game Saturday night and on Sunday.

Speaking of TSN, their website has some great WJC history:
Did you know Peter Forsberg is the tournament's all time leading point scorer with 42? He played in two championships, and in 1993 he scored a single tournament record 31 points!

By some coincidence, Peter Forsberg is also the most recent biography addition here at Greatest Hockey Legends.com.

Joe, incidently, Blake's nickname is Bam Bam, because he dressed up as a Flinstone character once for Halloween. The closeness to the Boom Boom name helped it stick.

I read something about that just today in the Ottawa Sun.
