Luongo Names Top Five Goalies of All Time

As a Vancouver fan, I certainly learned one thing last season: Roberto Luongo knows a thing or two about goaltending.

So when The Hockey News asked him to name the top five goaltenders of all time in their 2007-08 season preview, I listened.

Luongo's choices, in no particular order: Ken Dryden, Terry Sawchuk, Patrick Roy, Grant Fuhr, and Martin Brodeur.

When asked where he ranked himself, Luongo laughed. "That's up to you guys," he said.

I think he'll rank pretty high up there, although the first 5 or 6 years of his career were spent with some weak teams and that will skew his all time statistics some. Plus he needs to win a championship or two. Hopefully that means a Stanley Cup parade through Vancouver's Stanley Park.

By the way, there's a nice yarn in the Friday Vancouver Province about how the 1982 Cinderella Canucks team is building a bright future for the franchise. Names like Stan Smyl, Thomas Gradin, Harold Snepsts, Ron Delorme and Lars Lindgren continue to make big contributions in Vancouver.
