Viacheslav Fetisov is a 2 time Stanley Cup champion, 2 time Olympic gold medalist, and 7 time world champion. He is a Hockey Hall of Famer, and considered by many to be the best Soviet hockey player of all time, which is an amazing accomplishment in itself. He is often called the Russian Bobby Orr, although I always thought Denis Potvin was the perfect comparison.
So what is Slava doing these days?
In 2002 Russian president Vladimir Putin appointed Fetisov as the head of the Russian Sports Agency. One of his most important jobs right now is lobby support for the 2014 Winter Olympics bid in the Black Sea city of Sochi.
In doing so, Russia hopes to "to showcase the new Russia, to showcase our hospitality," said Fetisov from game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals in Ottawa, where he is in town to garner support for the Russian bid.
