Ficel Marketing is planning a 35th Anniversary DVD release of the 1972 Summit Series. All 8 games will be included in the set, as in the original DVD release. There is no word yet of any enhancements to the games, such as improved video or audio or the inclusion of the original intermission features.In addition to the 8 games, a documentary similar to 'Summit on Ice'' & 'September '72' will be created.
Paul Patskou, the world's leading expert on hockey video collections suggests the documentary be "similar to 'Summit on Ice'' & 'September '72' " but "in order to make the DVD set different and successful, an attempt will be made to tell the story from the Soviet point or view."
The outstanding short film 'Crowd Reaction to Team Canada' which shows Canadians across the country watching and reacting to Game 8 will be included.
And, for the first time since the original broadcast, game 2 of the Canada-Sweden exhibition series that also took part during the Summit Series will be included.
"The second game of the Canada vs Sweden series will be included in the DVD set. Its brilliant colour and quality with great camera work. Its quite a find and now it will be shown for the first time since the original airing," says Patskou.
The DVD set is slated to be released sometime in the fall of 2007, though no official date has been set.
