On the eve of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the San Jose Sharks were mourning the loss of coach Warren Strelow.
The 73 year old had devoted his entire life to goaltending, serving as the NHL's first full time goalie coach way back in 1983 when he was hired by the Washington Capitals.
He first gained notoriety as Jim Craig's goalie coach for the 1980 Olympics. He had been a goalie coach at the University of Minnesota since 1974.
Since 1997 Strelow has worked with the Sharks. He also spent some time with the New Jersey Devils.
Among his proteges are Martin Brodeur, Evgeny Nabokov, Vesa Toskala, Miikka Kiprusoff, Sean Burke and Pete Peeters.
